I decided to bring the pink color of the background into the the petals of the poppies to unify this composition. But it felt best to bring a warm orange color into the arrangement to balance the cooler tones. It comes as no surprise, as orange is perhaps my favorite color, appearing in many of my paintings. However, pink is the star of this show, as it makes its way into two of the poppies, describing the contours of the petals that make the poppy such an iconic flower. My poppy paintings are heavily influenced by Art Nouveau and it's representation of flowers. This particular flower presents the perfect opportunity for me to use the beautiful line work associated with that particular style of art.
