The second in this series of three paintings, the perspective of this image shows the insides of these flowers, fully capturing the sunlight. I used an array of shades of cadmium red and magenta to depict the multitude of wrinkles and crevices that are indicative of the petals of this flower. The hallmark of the poppy is its numerous stamens, surrounding an ovary formed from fused carpels. I found it best to simply paint the stamens as yellow dots floating around the center to communicate their ephemeral nature. The white outlines around the flowers give them further definition to pop against the background.
