This painting is the second in a series made using a limited, muted palette. Rather than relying on color and contrast to emphasize the subject, the design, composition and line work is given prominence. It was an exercise in restraint to subdue the purple of the iris, allowing it to live harmoniously within the color scheme. I'm particularly fond of the interplay of the leaves as they recede into the background.
