Tall sea oats grow along the shores and wetlands, decorating our beaches. My focus in this painting was to capture the myriad intersecting lines of the grass and the beautiful, ever-changing shapes they produce. The background is a thick, heavily textured layer of oil paint, which was then covered by a liquid metal coating. Oxidizing treatment was then applied, which turned the whole surface to a soft rust, yielding a variety of burnt-orange tones. I chose a complementary green for the grass to play against this warm, rusted backdrop. I hope you enjoy the final image as much as I did making it.
