In this commissioned painting, I allowed color to take center stage and used the interplay of green stalks of grass to break up the mostly orange background. The vertical elements of the sparse grass break up the horizontal shape of the canvas. I often use this technique of juxtaposition to create a visually engaging composition. The grass was painted with thin brushwork, while the orange background was applied heavily with the palette knife to create even more variation.

The original painting measures 84" x 36", oil on canvas.
